We often associate nature with travel, with forests and hill-stations and far-off places. But what if you could connect to nature here in the city?

Join us for a relaxed walk through the shaded streets of Indiranagar.  We'll look up at tree canopies, peer closely at barks and roots, listen to interesting anecdotes -- and maybe rekindle our own memories of nature. All you need to bring is a cap, a water bottle and a curious mind.

Distance: 1.5 to 2km
Venue: Defence Colony, Indiranagar
Time: 8:00-10:00 am

This walk is facilitated by Suchi Govindarajan. Suchi is a writer, poet and photographer. She is the author of three wildlife-themed books for children. A Certified Nature Guide from The Naturalist School, Suchi believes that connecting to nature can make our lives more meaningful.

Indeed one needn't go to the jungle or the mountain or the rivers and the beaches to connect with nature as our own backyard will posses an abundance of knowledge hidden from plain sight and all that's required would be the mind and the keen eye sight to identify the treasure of nature

The inaugural tree walk was laidback and deliberately paced on a beautiful Sunday morning. The group was small and the tone was chatty. Suchi told us many fun and memorable facts about trees, like some of the many stories about how raintrees got their name -- one story goes that cicadas like urinating from this tree, producing the "rain." We learned about how many trees that we associate closely with India, e.g. gulmohars, are in fact nonnative species that've made special adaptations to the different terrains and climate here. Suchi is low-key and approachable; she talks to you rather than overwhelming you with arcane and erudite knowledge. This tree walk is accessible to people from any background, including children. I'm going to join future iterations of Suchi's tree walk.

The tree walk was a delightful experience - informative, enjoyable, and engaging. Throughout the stroll, I was captivated by Suchi's expert guidance, as she eloquently elucidated the beauty of the trees and its surrounding ecosystem. Suchi's engaging narrative about the trees' intricate relationships with the cohabiting insects and bees provided unique and fascinating insights that pleasantly surprised and delighted me. Prior to the walk, I had always appreciated the  beauty of the trees, but the walk encouraged me to pause, observe, and more deeply connect with the natural world around me. The time seemed to pass effortlessly, testament to how engaged and appreciative I felt throughout the experience. Overall, the tree walk was a truly enriching chance for me and my friends and we had a renewed sense of awe for nature in all its grandeur. It is a valuable opportunity to step back, immerse oneself in nature, and truly appreciate our shared environment. I would highly recommend this tree walk to everyone, as I would eagerly partake in such experiences again in the future.
