Beautiful coastal rides on beachside and village roads - one needs nothing more!
The West Coast Odyssey covers the beautiful Karnataka coastline of Padukere, Mulki, Kapu, Malpe, Pithrody and more. This year's edition begins in Agumbe in the Western Ghats and descends down to the coast. You'll be riding ~200 km over 3 days, with many stunning sights along the way. Several route sections run through little slivers of land wedged between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters. While not on the saddle, you'll be participating in kayaking lessons, exploring the mangroves and watching beautiful sunsets on pristine beaches. This is the cycling holiday you've been dreaming of!

This idyllic coastline is the best place to get away for a few days from the city. The people are warm and hospitable, the beaches are pristine and the sunsets are to die for!

Itinerary

Day 1, Thursday, 25th Jan:
  • Arrive in Agumbe by nightfall. Overnight stay in an award-winning homestay, ranked among the top 10 wildlife homestays in the country.

Day 2, Friday, 26th Jan (Republic Day):
  • Those who choose the 3 nights option of this tour will take an overnight bus and arrive in Agumbe this morning, by 6 am.
  • We start off the tour by doing a short hike to a peak nearby to explore the famed local flora and fauna of the region.
  • After breakfast, we'll ride down to Padukere beach, located on the Konkan coastline. The route for the day will take you down the winding Agumbe Ghat road. This road is known for its stunning views of the surrounding landscape, as it offers a bird's eye view of the Western Ghats and the surrounding countryside. As you ride down, you'll pass through forests of tall, stately trees, and catch glimpses of small villages and farms nestled amongst the greenery. You'll pass through a wide range of ecosystems, from dense forests to grassy fields. This rich biodiversity is a result of the Western Ghats being a hot spot for endemism, with many species of plants and animals found only in this region.

This area is known for its beautiful beaches and serene backwaters. After taking in the sights at the delta, we'll return along the same route back to Kapu. This route is one of the most beautiful cycling routes in India. Several sections of the ride are on the slivers of land wedged between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters of the Padukere, Sita, Suvarna and Udyavara rivers.

As we set out, we'll be greeted by crystal-clear waters and stunning surroundings. One of the highlights of this experience is the opportunity to catch the sunrise over the water, which casts a golden glow over the river, creating a truly breathtaking sight. We'll also have the opportunity to kayak through the mangroves of this river, which are home to a wide variety of plants and animals, giving us an up-close and unique perspective on this ecosystem as we paddle through the narrow waterways.
