The Avalahalli State Forest near Yelahanka is perfect for trail riding and learning the basics of handling a mountain bike. There are fairly long stretches of single track and double track, with lots of green cover all through. There are also a couple of rocky, technical sections for the adrenaline junkies out there. Expect to see many peacocks and a whole lot of other local fauna.

We will organise a brief mountain biking workshop for those interested to acquire trail riding skills. From body posture and techniques for climbing and descending, and effective braking habits, to tackling loose surfaces off-road terrain and riding off the saddle, expect lessons on a verity of mountain biking skills. You can then ride across the forest practicing what you have learnt.

This is graded as a Moderate (Level-2) ride not for the distance or endurance aspects, but because of the tricky sections on the trail where riders can push their limits. There will be a Level-1 group too who are relatively new to riding trails, so they will cover the easier trails in the periphery of the forest.

Itinerary

  • Meet at the entrance of Jarakabande Kawal Butterfly Garden, by 6:30 AM
  • Gather with fellow riders for rental bike assignments and a ride briefing by the organisers
  • Hop on your bicycle and head out with your guide. Please be cautious about obstacles on this terrain, as this is a trail ride.
  • Gather at the designated pot for an MTB workshop, so you can learn the necessary skills to ride on trails.
  • Take the time to practice your skills by riding on various trails inside this serene Avalahalli State Forest.
  • Return to your meeting point by 10/11 AM, and disperse.

What do the levels mean?

The Level 1 (Beginner) rides are ideal for those who want to get back into cycling after a long time and get a taste of bicycle touring. The Level-2 (Moderate) rides are intended for those who've done a few of our Level-1 rides (20-30 km). The Level-3 (Challenging) rides are suitable for those who've done some Level-2 rides (40-60 km) and want to take it up a notch. Level-4 (Extreme) are rides and tours which have a lot of difficult climbs and or difficult conditions like in high-altitude regions.
